“Life’s a waste of time, and surfing is as good way to waste it as any.”
My family originate from all corners of the British Isles, one side Orcadian fishermen the other Irish shipbuilders and ropemakers. My great grandfather and great-great grandfather both lived Belfast and both worked on the infamous Titanic. My parents settled in Grimsby not the most picturesque seaside location admittedly, but it’s a place where the sea is cultured into society, and where there’s a proud maritime heritage.
I’m a designer and filmmaker and have worked in the surf industry for several years but returned to the UK in 2008 to do my own thing and freelance. We live a stones throw from the sea and I’ve spent the last 20 years fumbling about in the sea chasing the wind and tides. Riding the challenges along this magical journey, learning to trust my gut, getting excited by the simplest of things and continuing to watch the sea wide-eyed.
